Disconnected

Work is frustrating again. I've been transferred to a new project,
which is a good thing, really: (a) it keeps me from getting bored (b)
the building is easier to get to and (c) I'm getting to be a project
manager again, which hopefully will translate into a promotion in the
not-too-distant future. However, since it's a small project (the type
they give people without very much PM experience), it has less capable
staff. Normally, I'd just do everything myself, but they've changed
our systems and structures to include more checks and balances by
requiring more people to be involved on every little thing. Great idea
if everyone pulls their weight. Impossible if someone refuses to do
anything and therefore holds up the whole project. So right now, I'm
sitting in someone's cubicle while he types up a document I asked him
for two weeks ago. It feels like a waste of my time, but it's the only
way to get him to do it, and I can't write it because I wasn't present
at all the meetings. Argh! And this guy is going to be my backup for
the whole project. Joy. He's a really nice guy, but hopelessly
inefficient and computer illiterate. Also, apparently not much good at
time management. No wonder he hasn't made it to PM.

Also, I bought new boots. They're warm and furry and supposedly
weather-resistant. They're also a half size too big, to leave space
for socks. However, they must have thought about that themselves,
since even with an extra pair of socks, they're still too big. So my
foot keeps sliding over the embroidery on the inside bottom, and it's
irritating my poor feet.

Also, there's a lot of snow and not enough skiing.

Also, I have a headache.

I never understood that mentality. My staff is the same way, and I keep saying to them "If you could just do the basics, we could focus on better stuff!" but they never do. Sounds like this guy has the same problem.

Shame about the boots being too big. they sound super-nice!
